Mr. Alonzo Rivers

Funeral services for Mr. Alonzo Rivers of Smithville, Georgia will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 12 noon at the Zion Hope Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the Green Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Alonzo Rivers was born on November 30, 1966 in Smithville, GA to the parentage of Mr. Eddie Rivers, Sr., who precedes him in death and Mrs. Vera Mae Cutts Rivers.  He is the sixth of seven children.  He attended the Lee County Public School System in Leesburg, Georgia, where he played football and baseball.

As a young child, he participated on various church programs-Sunday School, Easter, Vacation Bible School, etc., at Mount Able (Desoto) and Green Grove Baptist Churches. 

Alonzo’s professional life include job positions at Lippert Components of Americus, GA-Press Operator, McCleskey Mills, Inc. of Smithville, GA-Quality Control, and ConArt Concrete, Inc. of Cobb, GA-Supervisor.  In recent years, he operated his own business, Big Al’s Lawn Care Services and he took deep pride in serving his customers.

Alonzo had a zest for life and enjoyed its many aspects; which included fishing, hunting, watching basketball on television, watching his FAVORITE football team, the DALLAS COWBOYS, and hanging out with his son, Brandon and his brother-in-law, Tony.

On Friday, January 4, 2019, surrounded by family, he transitioned to eternal glory.  Along with his father, he is preceded in death by four siblings, Eddie Mae, Shirley, Eddie Rivers, Jr., and Edna Rivers Walker; Grandparents, Mr. Charlie and Mrs. Palace Cutts and Mr. Ben Rivers and Mrs. Postell Harvey Rivers Bady.

The Funeral Service for Mrs. Jasmine NeKishe Smith-Holmes of Americus, Georgia will be held on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 12:00 noon at Bethesda Baptist Church, Americus, Georgia. Burial will follow at Eastview Cemetery.

Jasmine NeKishe Smith-Holmes was born on July 13, 1984 in Americus, Georgia to James Smith and the late Cheryl L. Thomas. She was a 2002 graduate of Americus High School.  She was a former employee of Magnolia Manor Nursing Home and was employed by Home Nursing Incorporated. Jasmine was preceded in death by her sister, Crystal Floyd, nephew, Kentavious Floyd, great-grandmother, Georgia L. Ross Thomas, and grandparents, Henry L. Milner and Betty Thomas.

Left to cherish her memories: husband, Eric Holmes of Americus, Georgia; father, James (Anna) Smith, Americus, Georgia; sister, Michelle Smith, Americus, Georgia; brothers: Dondi (Annie) Durham, Americus, Georgia, Desmend J. Mr. Michael Fitzgerald Miles of Americus, Georgia passed away on Friday, January 18, 2019 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia.

The family will receive visitors at the home of Overseer Linda Mathis.

Michael was born to the late Willie C. Miles and Jewel Merritt Miles. Left with precious memories of Michael are his four children: MaQuitta Nimmons and Michael Izaiah Miles of Columbus, Georgia, LeTyarrian Jemel Miles and Shynia J. Miles of Americus, Georgia; one sister, Belinda Small; one brother, Christopher Miles; two nieces: LaToya Wallace and Tiffany Johnson; three grandchildren, a host of other relatives and friends.

The Funeral Service for Ms. Lena Mae Hunt of Americus, Georgia will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at United Holiness Church, Americus, Georgia.

Ms. Lena Mae Hunt was born on October 25, 1934 in Sumter County, Georgia to the late Mary and Willie Jerkins. She was a faithful member of United Holiness Church until her passing. Ms. Lena passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter, Mary Quwenty on Friday, January 18, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Hunt and her daughter, Carolyn Ann Terry.

Ms. Lena will be lovingly remembered by her four children: Larry Terry (Karen), Edward Hunt (Robie), Mary Quwenty (Eddie) and David Hunt; eight grandchildren; a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Mr. Michael Fitzgerald Miles was born on July 23, 1964 to the late Willie C. Miles and Jewel Merritt Miles. He passed away on Friday, January 18, 2019 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia.

Mrs. Esther W. Mathis Truman passed away on January 21, 2019 in Maryland. On Saturday, February 2, 2019, Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, 8620 GA Hwy 26E, Montezuma, Georgia. Her Funeral Service will begin immediately following visitation at 11:00 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

She was the beloved mother of Milton Gouch, Jr. and Essie M. Willis-Brooks (Larry D. Brooks); dear grandmother of Willie Demetrius Willis, Antoine Brooks, Milton Gouch III, and Michelle Willis; and great grandmother of Alesia Frances Willis and Dallas Willis. Very dear to her were Lena and Charles Apete, Charleen, Annick, Mimi, Beraka and Elbenezer Apete, Alfred and Jackie Johnson and Promise and Hope Johnson. A very special thank you to the Thomas Family and the Daniels Family.

Ms. Eula Mae Sampson of Americus, GA died on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the Phoebe-Sumter Medical Center in Americus, GA. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of West’s Mortuary.

Ms. Eula Mae Sampson was born in Sumter County, Georgia on December 12, 1941 to the late Annie Lou Sampson. “Lil Sister” or “Sugar Tit” as she was affectionately called was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and worked several jobs in Americus as a custodian.

She is survived by three sisters: Annie Lee Hooks (Leroy) of Leslie, GA, Bernice Bowen and Bertha Mae Edge all of Americus, GA; three brothers: Willie James Perry (Willie), Henry Lee Perry (Ruth) and Gundy Edge Jr. all of Americus, GA; nieces: Sandra Brown (Charles)  Desota, GA, Lena Hooks III, of Leslie, GA, Jimmy Hooks  (Carla) of Albany, GA, Virginia Gaines of Decatur, Georgia, Beverly Mathis (Henry) of Texas, Stephanie Bowen. Janice Maurice Bowen. Delisa Monique Bowen, Melissa Simpson and Latoya Shenice Bowen all of Americus. GA; one aunt: Eula Mae Prince of Americus, GA; nephews: Freddie Perry  of  Americus, GA and Chris Bowen  (Shanta) of Cordele, GA. Several other relatives and friends also survive.

The funeral service for Mr. Andre V. Ingram of Americus, Georgia will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 3:00 P..M. at the Household of Faith Ministries with Apostle Dr. Marcia Carter officiating. Interment will follow at Staley Memorial Gardens

Andre Vernard Ingram, who was affectionately known as “Fat Rat” and “Bro. Andre”, was born in Americus, Georgia on September 13, 1984 to Mrs. Betty Jo Ingram Williams and Mr. John Lee Williams.  He attended Americus High School and was in the class of 2003.  Andre is preceded in death by his grandparents: Mrs. Elizabeth Davis, Mr. Joe Lewis Ingram and Mr. John Tot; His sister, Ms. JoAnna Williams.

Andre accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized in 2012 at The Household of Faith Ministries, under the leadership of his in-laws, Apostle, Dr. Marcia Carter & Bishop, Dr. Walter J. Carter.  On April 5, 2013, Andre was united in Holy Matrimony to Mrs. Shakale T. Carter and they were blessed to have 2 beautiful daughters, Kalia and Amiya Ingram. He loved sports, especially football.  He was an Atlanta Falcons Fan! He was employed with Tysons in Vienna, Georgia. Andre was a fun, loving and friendly person.  He was known for his sense of humor.  He loved to dress up and would often say “Yes, I AM sharp.” We will never forget Andre and all the good memories we have of him.

He departed this earthly life on February 4, 2018 and will always be in our hearts.  Andre leaves to cherish his memories:  His mother and father, Mrs. Betty Jo Ingram Williams and Mr. John Lee Williams (deceased).  His wife Mrs. Shakale T. Carter-Ingram, and their two daughters, Kalia and Amiya Ingram; his children: Carter Ingram and Ty’Keylan DeAndre Ingram. His brothers: Adrian Ingram (his twin), Donyall Ingram and David Williams.  His sisters: Porshe Ingram, Kiesha Ingram, Miya Ingram, Brittany Ingram, Tiffany Williams and the (late) Joanna Williams, Lucinda Dodson-Nelson, Theresa Adams and Lynn Cooper. His grandmother: Mrs. Gladys Williams; aunts: Bobbie Jean Davis, Christine (Tom) Davis, JoAnn Davis (deceased), Brenda Ingram, Jaqueline Davis (Winford) Holmes, Louse Adams (deceased).  His uncles: James Davis, Melvin Davis, Gregory Ingram, Charles Terry.  His god-mother: Madia Greene.  Great Uncles, Jesse Ingram.  Great Aunts: Nellie Mae Long, Dorothy Robinson, Bettysue Combs; His in-laws: Walter & Marcia Carter, Peggy Nimmons,Walter Carter IV, Cierra Nimmons, Katina(Keon)Jenkins, Maurice (Detiaya) Lundy, Deon Lundy and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Deacon Charlie Lee Durham

The funeral service for Deacon Charlie Lee Durham of Americus, Georgia will be held on Monday, February 11, 2019 at 10:30 A.M, at the Union Tabernacle Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Sims officiating. Interment will follow in the Andersonville National Cemetery.

Deacon Charlie Lee Durham was born June 2, 1934 to the late Emma Lee Dunning Gaston and Charlie Lee Durham Sr.  He had six siblings proceeded him in death; Louella Kendrick, Christine Durham, Mary Williams, James Durham, Charlie Durham and Oscar Durham. He joined Union Tabernacle Baptist Church at an early age, where he served over 70 yrs. He was a great teacher, Deacon and mentor at Union Tabernacle.

Deacon Durham attend Staley School in 1955, he played football holding the position of half back and lead the team to the state playoff held in Savannah, Georgia. After graduating from high school, Deacon Durham was drafted in 1955 into the United States Army and served his country for 3 years as a Corporal.

Charlie was a hard working father. He worked for 24 yrs. N the maintenance Dept. and retired from JMC in Americus, Georgia.  After retirement, he worked at Tolleson Lumber Company in Preston, GA. Where he also retired as well.

Deacon Charlie Durham was married to the mother of his children, Ms. Mary Durham Carter for 34 yrs. Later, he was married to Martha Brown Durham for 24 yrs.

He is the father of six children; Minister Helen Barlow, Charles (Teresa) Durham, Patricia (Johnny) Mable, Ernest (Tammy) Durham, Valerie (Frank) Benny, Ambra (Robert) Sanford, all of Americus Georgia. One Sister, Fairillia (Willie James) Yancey, Lumpkin, Ga. Four brothers; Jimmy (Daisy) Durham, Tommy (Diane) Durham, Bernice Durham, and Rebea Durham, all of Weston, Georgia. 17 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.  A close friend Carlton Glenn Maye, Sr.

The Funeral Service for Mr. Jerome McDonald of Montezuma, Georgia will be held Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at noon at New Life Ministries, Morse Avenue, Montezuma, Georgia with Minister D. Johnson officiating.

Jerome McDonald was the son of the late Mrs. Elois Miller McDonald and the late Mr. Arthur Lee McDonald. He was born on March 23, 1958 in Montezuma, Georgia. On Friday, February 8, 2019, Jerome passed away peacefully at Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele, Georgia.

Left with loving memories of Jerome are his three sisters: Annie McDonald Tookes (Henry) of Montezuma, Georgia, Mary Jean McDonald of Atlanta, Georgia and Ruby McDonald of Montezuma, Georgia; his brother-in law an sister-in-law: James Dennis of Montezuma, Georgia and Minnie Ruth McDonald of Americus, Georgia; aunts: Hattie Hubbard, Emma Jean McDonald and Louise Baldwin all of Montezuma, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The Funeral Service for Ms. Rosie May Walters will be held Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 12:00 noon at Little Poplar Springs Baptist Church, Byromville, Georgia with Dr. Alonzo Smith, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Poplar Springs Cemetery.

Rosie May Walters was born to Willie Clarence and Mary McKenzie Walters in Montezuma, Georgia on April 8, 1946. She joined and was baptized at Little Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Byromville, Georgia at an early age. She attended Little Poplar Springs School and Byromville Elementary School.

Rosie loved God and people. She enjoyed dressing up in fancy clothes. She was faithful in going to church, and she always carried her bible with her. After the death of our mother, she went to live with her sister Alice and her family in Lake Wales, Florida. In 2005, she went to live with her sister Johnnie and her family in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They moved back to Georgia in 2016.

Rosie May Walters departed this life on March 10, 2019. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Dollie Mae and Alice Mae.

Memories of her life will be forever cherished by her three brothers: Willie C. Walters, Jr. of Prescott, Arizona, Eddie J. Walters of Byromville, Georgia and Joe Lewis Walters of Decatur, Georgia; two sisters: Maggie Trimble of Atlanta, Georgia and Johnnie Mae Cunningham (Willie Frank) of Snellville, Georgia; three aunts: Jo Maxye McKenzie of Americus, Georgia, Georgia Mae Johnson of Jonesboro, Georgia and Thelma Gray of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one uncle, John Henry Ball of Macon, Georgia; a special niece, Loretta Cunningham; a special companion, Gwendolyn Sanders; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

The Funeral Service for Mr. Benjamin Smithof Americus, Georgia will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. in the Chapel of West’s Mortuary with Bishop Melvin McCluster officiating.

Benjamin Smith was born on April 1, 1939 in Cool Springs, Georgia to Louise Green Smith and Robert Smith.  He attended Sumter County High School in Americus, Georgia and later graduated from Albany State College.  He was a military veteran. “Mr. Ben”, as he was frequently called, was a man about his computer and food. He departed this life on February 25, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his caregiver, Mary Bryant; three nieces: Carolyn Smith, Judy Smith and June Smith; The Magnolia Manor Staff; other surviving friends:  Juanita Whitlock of Americus, Georgia, Ben Carter of Americus, Georgia, friends at Ravenwood Apartments and East Furlow Street.

The Funeral Service for Mr. Charlie Morgan of Americus, Georgia will be held on Friday, March 22, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of West’s Mortuary in Americus, Georgia with Rev. George F. Monts officiating. Burial will follow at the Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Plains, Georgia. The family will receive friends at West's Mortuary on Thursday from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.

Mr. Charlie Frank Morgan was born in Plains, Georgia, on January 6, 1944 to the late Mr. Willie Frank Morgan and the late Mrs. Alberta Black Morgan. He was educated in the Sumter County School System. Charlie died peacefully on Sunday, March 18, 2019 at Life Care Center in Fitzgerald, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and five sisters.

He leaves to mourn his passing a brother, Deacon Ralph (Jurilene) Morgan and a sister Mrs. Fannie Mae Sheffield both of Americus, Georgia. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
